Adoptions are still going well, with almost 100 animals finding permanent, loving homes thus far! There are many still to go and, having unexpectedly received many pregnant females, we are up to our eyeballs in mice! So, PLEASE consider adding a lovely aquarium full of mice (or even 1 little boy who refuses to get along with his brothers) to your home.

Here are the top 5 reasons you should do so (courtesy of NLAS Board Member Jane Garrison):

1. If you adopt a tank, it makes room for more animals to be saved from animal testing.
2. They are SO EASY to care for! You just put them in a tank with food, water, bedding and an exercise wheel and they are so happy!
3. They are SO MUCH fun to watch….
4. You will be giving an animal used in a lab peace for the first time in their life!
5. You can help empty my garage!!!! I still have over 150 animals in my garage.

Please fill out the adoption application at: newlifeanimalsanctuary.org/adoption.html

Check out the article in CSUN’s school newspaper:
http://sundial.csun.edu/home/index.cfm?event=displayArticle&ustory_id=f01951c3-ef75-4c77-b40c-9db9445130de

We so appreciate everyone’s generous contributions but are tapped out once again. Please donate to the ongoing care of these animals as well as future rescues:

Following last week’s rescue of over 250 animals from CSUN’s closing psych. lab, we are very pleased at the enthusiastic response we are getting to our call to adopt these lucky little critters! Last weekend we saw our first adoptions to wonderful, loving homes of 7 rats, 40 mice and 14 hamsters. We have homes for 3 more rats, 10 hamsters and 2 guinea pigs, pending neutering of rats, and scheduling pick-up/drop-off.

If you’re interested in providing tender loving care for the rest of the life of a group of animals from a lab, the available groups will be posted at the end of this message. Please fill out the application at: newlifeanimalsanctuary.org/adoption.html and indicate the group(s) you are interested in. We have literally seen people moved to tears at the prospect of giving these critters the life they deserve. What a rewarding way to make a contribution to the plight of animals in labs!

Many thanks to our first adopters: Mick Mars, Chandra Greco, Kim Zoerb, Nina Markert, Debbie La Torre, Thao Grass, Andrea Montes and Jess!

In other news, a few of the mice we received from CSUN were pregnant and we’ve had at least 2 new litters of new babies! Here’s a few photos from our adoptions, babies, etc.:

We expect to receive over 200 small animals from Cal State University Northridge’s closing psych lab this week but we still need your help!

We’ve been working hard, collecting cages and supplies, etc. and are still a little short of what we need to accommodate all the animals. The lab could call any day for us to come pick them up and we need to be ready!

What we Still Need:

* water bottles
* food bowls (small, ceramic)
* large cages or aquariums for colonies of mice, dwarf hamsters
* litter, bedding (carefresh or other non-toxic please)
* mouse & rat food
* small cardboard boxes (kleenex, cereal, etc.), toilet paper and paper towel rolls

If you can donate any of the above items, please e-mail the contact closest to you:

South Bay - Jane@JaneGarrison.com
Orange County/Inland Empire - gina@newlifeanimalsanctuary.org
San Fernando Valley - billy@zerobpm.com

We also still need permanent homes for rats, mice, syrian hamsters and dwarf hamsters. Adoption application can be found on-line at: newlifeanimalsanctuary.org/adoption.html or e-mail adopt@newlifeanimalsanctuary.org

Right on the heals of this rescue, we have a batch of rats coming from a lab in Pennsylvania! There are over 70 total being released and the local group there (The Humane League of Philadelphia) will secure homes for as many as they can and send the rest our way.

Obviously, all of this takes money and we are brand new, not quite ready to take this on, so financial contributions are most helpful in ensuring the best life for these lucky critters who are being given a New Life! If you prefer, consider sending a gift card from Centinela Feed (http://www.centinelafeed.net/StoreLocations.htm) that we can use to buy supplies.
