This is a message of hope for the future, but also of desperate need right now!

Friends,
The new year has brought new life to the sanctuary!

  • Parent owls dutifully built and tended nests in our tall trees over the last few months, and now we have hatchlings!
  • Wildlife of all kinds (we call them dumplings) have been saved from peril and transported to professional rehabbers.
  • A sneaky feral cat trusted her 5 kittens (we had no choice!) to us (placed neatly under our barn) and we’ve spayed them and cared for them inside while looking for their forever homes. They are mischievous and their latest shenanigans–turning on a water faucet–created a flood disaster. Never a dull moment!
  • An “odoriferous” life was saved! Scroll to the end of this email for her story.
Then we had to say goodbye to a couple of very special friends: Sophia the sheep and Coby the pig. We provided veterinary care (not cheap) and comfort and hugs (infinite and free!) but we are reeling from the loss.
Our board of directors has grown (welcome to the team Sidney!) and they are doing everything they can to manage the budget and ensure all our animal residents are well fed and healthy.

But I have bad, bad news to share. Our holiday fundraising drive fell far short of our expectations. We were counting on that to get us well into 2025.Looking at our budget, well I want to be transparent and honest with you all. I am terrified about how we are going to have enough money to care for our family here at New Life.
IN THE NEAR FUTURE OUR BANK ACCOUNT COULD BE DEPLETED
We certainly can’t go without electricity, we don’t want any animals to go hungry, and we always need a reserve for proper end-of-life moments that could arise at any time with our aging family.

Can you guess what our budget is? Take a look:
We need $2,770 per month just for food for the animals (see the chart below)
The facility utility bills average $1,700 per month (trash pickup and electric and such)
Other costs include veterinary care, bedding, cleaning products, parasite control, repairs, and so much more.

When we go into lean mode, we feed the animals and keep them cozy. But no repairs, no treats, we stretch the hoof-trimming appointments, you get the idea…So please, if you are capable, make a donation or sponsor an animal today!

We promise and commit to always being very careful with funds and every penny goes toward our mission** and the care of our resident animal ambassadors (and we’re still 100% volunteer operated).
**What’s that mission you ask? We swore to care for these gentle creatures saved from laboratory research confinement and give them a #LifeAfterLabs. We spread the message about the importance of ending vivisection while encouraging the purchase of cruelty-free products, in the spirit of compassion for all animals.

All donations and gifts to New Life Animal Sanctuary are tax deductible because NLAS is a 501(c)3 designated charity, EIN 90-0343838

#LifeAfterLabs

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that in addition to animals from labs, we save hundreds of animals from shelters every year and coordinate their transport to qualified, licensed rehabbers.

Last weekend, this dear, young skunk was brought into the shelter stuck to a cruel glue trap. She had clearly been stuck for days and was slowly starving. The shelter did their best before contacting us.

Check out little skunk’s progress in this Facebook video: video: https://www.facebook.com/reel/589515967419421

We promptly arranged for her to go to the phenomenal rehabber, Jennifer Marlow, who is getting her ready to go back into the world as the wild beauty that she was meant to be. She has been named Taffy!

This precious soul was near death but with appropriate care, she is getting stronger every day, stomping in self defense and showing her will to live! Taffy expected to make a full recovery and be released back to the wild 🙂

Please share and pass on this important message: Do not ever use glue traps. They are inhumane for any living being, causing immense suffering and indiscriminate death.

We are a 501c3 charity [Non Profit Tax ID (EIN) 90-0343838] and sanctuary devoted to the rescue and rehabilitation of animals who have survived laboratory research.
New Life Animal Sanctuary is proud to be one of the few sanctuaries in the country that focuses its efforts on saving animals from laboratories, also one of the only sanctuaries that rescues rodents! We are also a liaison for injured and orphaned wildlife, we help the wildlife professionals save those lives too.
