Life After Labs®

Our slogan “Life After Labs®” is meant to emphasize the idea and possibility that an animal’s life does not have to end when the laboratory study does. To date we have taken in thousands of survivors. Contact Us to arrange a visit and meet our current clan. Or click below to help us save more deserving lives with a gift today.

Booker and Bluey were rescued from a laboratory in 2023. Did you know that around 50,000 dogs are still used in research in the U.S. every year (per National Anti-Vivisection Society)? Beagles are the most popular breed for laboratories, in part due to their gentle and forgiving nature.

OUR WORK

We are a 501(c)3 charity sanctuary devoted to the rescue and rehabilitation of animals who have survived laboratory research.

Founded in 2008 by Gina Lynn, New Life Animal Sanctuary is proud to be one of the first sanctuaries in the country that focuses its efforts on saving animals from laboratories, also we’re also one of the only sanctuaries currently that liberates laboratory rodents! To date we have taken in thousands of survivors.

NLAS also serves as a liaison for orphaned and injured wildlife, helping to transport countless creatures to proper wildlife rehabbers.

Click here to read more about how we got started with the rescue of around 300 small animals from a university psychology lab.

Sponsor A Pigeon

$10

per month

Our “lucky 13” came to us in 2020 from a university. A new pigeon aviary was built to accommodate them – a sharp contrast to their former tiny cages where they could not stretch their wings.

Other feathered friends at the sanctuary include ducks, chickens, guinea fowl and a turkey.

Sponsor A Pig

$35

per month

31 mini-pigs were rescued in 2015 and 10 more “oinkers” have joined our clan since then.

$35 provides one piggie with pellets (and some watermelons and pumpkins) for a month.

Sponsor Everyone

$250

per month

Our sanctuary is home to more than 100 animal residents

The cost for hay, grain, rabbit pellets, vegetables, dog chow, and other nutrition is about $45,000 per year!

Sponsorships

All of our current residents need sponsors. Contact us to set up a plan to help a Rat, a Bunny, a Llama, etc. You’ll receive email updates with photos of that special new friend.

Harriet, rescued from a California laboratory and now residing at New Life Animal Sanctuary

HARRIET’S STORY

March 2022. There is very little we know, and even less we can say about this little pig’s past… except she was just under a year old and had spent every day of her life thus far in a concrete kennel, never seeing the light of day or feeling the earth under her feet. We welcomed Harriet into the New Life family and although she was nervous and mistrusting of humans, by the end of her first day she had snuggled up to our founder, Gina, took a nap, and began her glorious Life After Labs®!

The story gets even better. Just 3 weeks later, we found another small Yucatán pig in need of rescue from a different California laboratory. The new youngster, named Lynn, needed some time to learn that not all humans will harm her. But it wasn’t long until she felt the love being showered upon her and found a best-friend in Harriet.

Sanctuary Highlights

Operation Oink! Rescue

In July, we coordinated the release of six smart and sensitive pigs. Animal testing on pigs is a cruel and gruesome practice.
We know you share our mission to forever end this senseless torture of animals in research.

Ratties!

While in route to pick up a piggy from a laboratory, the lab informed us that 6 expectant rat mothers were set to be euthanized. They said we were welcome to save them if we wanted. Well of course! 76 babies were born 2 days later in our bunny/rat house.

Booker Goes to School

Dec. 1 2023, Booker went to school to educate about animal laboratory research! It made quite an impact on the students to meet an actual survivor of research, click here to watch the video.

Featured on The Dodo

Still the largest rescue of pigs from a laboratory to date, 31 Gottingens were rescued from a biomedical lab in San Francisco, which was planning to have them killed.
