Sherry Alvarado Memorial
With sadness, we share the passing of Gina’s mom Sherry- who recently lost her 17 year battle with cancer. Friend and fellow animal rights activist, Jane Garrison, has started a memorial initiative with a generous $5000 gift. Together we can keep Sherry’s memory flourishing at New Life Animal Sanctuary (NLAS). She was a champion for all of the animals, a voice for the voiceless, and spoke against cruelty and exploitation- at protests, rallies, and fund raisers.
Sherry raised Gina, NLAS founder, to love and defend all animals, to speak up for animal rights, and to help, protect, and save them.
With a donation to the newly created Sherry Alvarado Memorial Fund, you can support her daughter Gina’s ongoing mission of running New Life Animal Sanctuary (NLAS) – which provides homes and rehabilitation for laboratory survivors and other rescued creatures.
Gina and her mother spent many years together as animal advocates and crusaders. Gina founded NLAS in 2008 and has provided sanctuary and her trade marked “Life After Labs” to animals she has saved from research facilities, while educating about cruelty-free alternatives to testing on animals.
Gina is grieving — her friends and NLAS volunteers are here to honor her mother’s memory by keeping NLAS thriving. Donations in celebration of Sherry’s life, in lieu of flowers, would be greatly appreciated and will be used to provide care for the current NLAS animal residents whom Sherry loved so much and future rescues.

Gina’s Mom Sherry…
30 years ago I went to my first animal rights meeting and one of the first people I met was Gina. I remember sitting in that meeting and watching news coverage of her and her mom Sherry – who both got arrested protesting Knott’s Berry Farm keeping dolphins in tiny bathtubs. I was a new animal advocate and not only was I mesmerized by their level of commitment but I absolutely loved that a mother and daughter were both committed to seeing animals protected.
Over the years I have always seen Sherry at events that were put on by New Life Animal Sanctuary and other animal rights organizations. She was a long time vegan and a long time supporter of animal rights issues. But to me, her biggest contribution to protecting animals was putting Gina on this planet. Most people don’t even realize how much Gina has done for animals. They see what she has done with New Life Animal Sanctuary but that’s only a small fraction of the contributions she has made to making life better for animals over the last decades!
I hope people who care about Gina, people who knew Sherry, and those who love what New Life Animal Sanctuary is doing will join me in donating in memory of Sherry. I will start the memorial fund with a donation of $5,000.
